Show THE DIXIE OWL Science Seminar The various fields of science are becoming so diversified and the literature on the different subjects is so extensive that one can read but a fractional part of the material written on any one subject. In order to cooperate in bringing together the best things in the current literature of the various branches of science our school, it was taught thought advisable to form a science club. Pursuant to this idea all fourth year and college students and faculty members, interested in science, were called together on January 10 and the matter was presented to them. The proposition being favored by those present the following officers were elected: Jos. K Nicholes, President; E. ll. Hall 1st Vice Pres, and in Librarian; Anne Snow, 2nd Vice IVes. and Secretary; Iron Deposits. esting data was presented. 7 Mr. Tanner, Executive Board Member; Walter Cannon, Executive Board Member. The officers were instructed to draw up a constitution which was read and adopted by the society V. M. on January 17. The official title is Dixie Normal The College Science Seminar. meetings are held every other Thursday evening at eight oclock. The first regular meeting was held Jan. 24. Pres Nicholes lectured on the Makers of lhxsics. The lecture was very much enjoyed bv those present and it showed not only that the speaker had spent much time in reading and preparing but also that sormreal research had been done in the way of compiling and organizing the matei i tl. February 7, Mr. V. M. Tanner led ured before the Seminar on the work of Dr. Van lise in connection with the Lake Supeiior - Cannon then reviewed the briefly progress of science. The purpose of this organization is not only to review the current leterature of scientific magazines and books and to give lectures upon scientific subjects, but also to stimulate a greater interest and appreciation tor science among our students, to present useful information, to discuss and solve our local problems, to engage in research, to collect and preserve specimens for the making of a museum, and to be loyal and staunch supporters of the Dixie Normal College all of the time. Our membership is limited to dO persons. We have about half that number at the present time and would be glad to welcome any students who are eligible, or teachers who are interested.
