Show Television Today Turner to Team Up With PBS for Audubon Series and PBS through public television station WET A (Washington, DC.) have come to terms on a three-yea- r coproduction agreement of new Audubon Specials, which will begin airr programs ing in March. The will receive maximum national exposure through telecasts on WTBS and the 313 subscriber stations of PBS. The arrangement calls for the production of 12 hours of original programming through 1988, to be titled World of Audubon Specials on TBS and National Audubon Society Specials on PBS. Beginning with the March edition, each special will premiere on TBS and receive three encore presentations PBS stations will broadcast the programs beginning in July. Turner agrees not to air the programs during July, August and September so that PBS will enjoy exclusive airplay during those months. This is the first time TBS and PBS have joined forces on a major, original production, Turner explained. That such a venture has come about is a tribute to the National Audubon Ted Turner, the millionaire independent television mogul who tried to take over CBS and tailed but managed to scare the network out of a dozen years growth has been play one-hou- ing for some time with the idea of producing original mass appeal programming Most recently he funded a series on Jacques Cousteau, but Turner's ambitions seem to go beyond merely being a producer. So it comes as no special surprise that he has cut a deal with the Public Broadcasting Service for a series of specials involving the National Audubon Society. As Turner explained it, the Society, Turner Broadcasting System (TBS) television and they present subjects of vital concern to our world Had TBS (Turners Atlanta, Ga superstation) been the only outlet for the specials, those homeviewers with cable television in Utah would not be able to receive the broadcasts. Noncable viewers will be able to see the programs on KUED and KBYU. The first special is entitled Condor and is narrated by Robert Redford.
