Show BRYAN PROTESTS TO FIRST GRIEF . OBJECTS TO CLOSING OF OIL WELLS AT TAMPICO BY ORDERS OR-DERS OF CARRANZa. Mexicans Are Planning to Summarily Shut Down All of the Plants Because Be-cause Foreign Operators Reruse to Pay Heavy Assessment. Washington. Secretary Bryan has, sent a vigorous protest directly to the Carranza authorities at Tampico against their threat to close tne great oil wells in the vicinity of Tampico, because the foreign operators refused to pay a heavy assessment levied by the Mexicans. At the same time the matter was brought to the attention ol General Carranza himself. Most of the oil plants are owned by American and British capital. From time to time lately there have been complaints against decrees of the Carranza Car-ranza officials, reports coming directly direct-ly from state department representatives, representa-tives, as well as through the interested interest-ed foreign embassies. The latest advices indicated that the Mexicans were preparing to summarily sum-marily shut down all of the plants unless un-less the money demanded was forthcoming. |
