Show ROAD BUILDING MAY BE TAUGHT IN HIGH SCHOOLS A course in road building, care and maintenance, will be included in the curriculum of the high schools of the country districts, if plans of Dr. E. G. I Gowans, state superintent of public in-! in-! struction.are adopted by the state board j of education. The state board will j meet Wednesday and Dr. Gowans said i he would urge the adoption of the new .' requirements in the course of study. ! "I found in my last tiip through the I southern part of the state a crying need J for good road education. Good roads j have been built but the people have not j awakened to the necessity of maintain-I maintain-I ing them in good condition. RoaJ maintenance main-tenance is equally important with the construction." Dr. Gowans plans to have a semester devoted to road instruction, the classes being of five hours a week, insuring half a credit. He would have students do actual work along the roads leading to the school houses, insuring better roads as well as teaching the lesson. It is understood the board members favor I the plan. |
