W. Sitterud ELMO A pleasant surprise was tendered Brother Charles Pulsipher on his eighty-fifth eighty-fifth birthday. The following is a poem written by George Braithwaite to Bro. j Pulsipher on his eighty-fourth birthday: They tell me, friend, you're eighty-four Well, that's a ripe old age Full many a king has gone before And closed his earthy page; Full many a bounding youth, Who viewed you as a tot, Has with the earth his members strewed And long since been forgot. The Prophet Joseph you did see You shook him by the hand. At one time guarded you his life, In Nauvoo Legion's band. Full many a head with fever racked Has felt thy cooling hand; Eull many a loathsome dread disease Has fled at thy command. Beneath the waters clear and cool Thou'st baptized many a one; And for a blessing, mary a wife, Has brought her first-born son. Thou'st guided many a youthful step Amidst this world of strife; Thou'st chid the wayward, led the weak Along the path of Life. You've known the life of Pioneer, You've known the life of toil. You've built the bridges, made the roads And opened up new soil. Wherever men were needed most With hearts to do and dare, With iron will and stalwart faith, Dear brother, you've been there. The richest man alive will die, His bones and sinews rot; And wasted all his boasted wealth, His very name forgot; But faith and deeds like unto yours Will live to bless always. May we, with you in Father's house Renew our youth some day. Several new babies have made their appearance here, one at the home of Mr. and Mrs. S. N. Alger and a boy at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Darwin. Brinkerhoff. Mrs. Bemon Oviatt was pleasantly surprised on her birthday last Friday May 14. Mrs. Maud Harper has purchased the i home of George Braithwaite and with her babe is now living there. ( Mr. and Mrs. Melvln Cook, Mrs. ; Elizabeth Johnson, Mrs. Eliza Howard, and Mrs. Sarah Stewart visited with relatives here last Tuesday, j Mrs. Ernest Davis of Cleveland has ' been visiting with her sister, Mrs. Harper. |
