WOOD, Huntington For Assessor ANDREW WLMMER, Green River Meeting in county convention last Saturday, the Republicans of Emery county named what would seem to be a very strong ticket for presentation to the voters of the county this fall, and accomplishing that result with a minimum of sore spots left to rankle in the hearts of candidates, apparently. apparent-ly. The convention was called together shortly after ten o'clock, by County Chairman S. P. Snow sr. J. Wellington Welling-ton Seely was introduced as temporary tempor-ary chairman, and made a short "keynote" "key-note" speech in which he expressed himself as being very confident that a statewide prohibition law would be enacted by the incoming legislature, and that it was for Emery county to nominate and elect such officers as would carry out such laws and not permit them to be a farce on the the statute books. Continuing, he denounced the policies of President Wilson and commended the stand of Gov. Hughes, especially condemning the Democrats for putting the one-term one-term plank in the Baltimore platform and then falling to live up to it. Nominations being open for temporary tem-porary secretary of the convention, T. L. McCarty of Green River was placed in nomination and duly elected elect-ed to the position. The next business transacted was the naming of the various committees, commit-tees, the following named gentlemen being named on the same: Credentials P. H. Riley, H. G. Mills,, J. F. Oliver, Bert Bunnell, A. P. Johnson, S. D. Bunnell, E. M. Cox, J. T. Charlesworth, F. A. Killpack. Platform and Resolutions T. L. McCarty, H. G. Mills, G. H. Oviatt. William E. McKean, Peter Niel-son, Niel-son, J. T. Charlesworth, Wm. Richardson. Richard-son. Permanent Organization and Order of Business S. J. Neer, H. G. Mills, A. Axelson, M. L. Garvey, U. W. Grange, Gr-ange, Oscar Beebe, Wm. F. Fail, J. T. Charlesworth, Henry Thompson. Delegates from Lawrence and Emery, Em-ery, who arrived late, were also named nam-ed to the respective committees, and adjournment was taken until one o' clock. Upon re-convening in the afternoon after-noon the reports of the various corn-Continued corn-Continued on Last Page REPUBLICAN CONVENTION (Continued from Page 1) mittees were read and duly adopted, after which the convention was declared de-clared open for nominations for representative. rep-resentative. The name of T. L. Mc-Carty Mc-Carty was presented by T. G. Wim-mer Wim-mer of Green River, and seconded by W. F. Fail of Orangeville. The name of Wm. Hitchcock of Clawson was presented by J. T. Charlesworth and seconded by Samuel Singleton. The voting was done by precinct delegation, delega-tion, the chairman of each delegation announcing the vote. The count resulted re-sulted 83 to 10 in favor of Hitchcock and that gentleman made a nice little speech of acceptance of the honor. Peter Nielson of Huntington was next placed in nomination for 4-year commissioner by J. H. Killpack followed fol-lowed byE. H. Duzett of Emery by Ex-Senator Ex-Senator Brinkerhoff, the balloting resulting re-sulting in Duzett's nomination by a good margin, after which Mr. Nielson Niel-son moved that the nomination be made unanimous, which was done. For 2-year commissioner the name of Peter Nielson was again presented by J. H. Killpack and the motion that the rules be suspended and Mr. Nielson Niel-son be nominated by acclamation was made by Henry Thompson of Ferron and carried unanimously apparently before the Elmo delegation got their man in the race. Upon objection being be-ing raised by Dolph Axelson of Elmo, Mr. Nielson suggeted that the nomination nomi-nation be again declared open, which was done. G. H. Oviatt of Elmo was then placed in nomination along with Mr. Nielson, and the voting resulted in victory for the latter, the "score" being 64 to 2 7. On motion of Mr. Oviatt Ov-iatt the nomination was made unanimous. unani-mous. The clerkship was next in order but no nomination seemed to be forthcoming forth-coming so that office was passed for the present. Nominations for treasurer were next in order and the name of Horace Larsen Lar-sen was presented by O. Sorenson Jr., while that of W. F. Fail was presented pre-sented by S. P. Snow sr. The balloting ballot-ing resulted 65 to 34 in favor of Larsen Lar-sen and the nomination was made unanimous. un-animous. D. O. Morgan of Ferron, temporarily temporar-ily residing at Mohrland, was placed in nomination for sheriff and the rules were suspended and the nomination nomi-nation made by acclamation. S. P. Snow sr., next presented the name of J. Frank Killian of Orangeville Orange-ville for the office of recorder and the rules were again suspended and Mr. Killian was nominated by acclamation. acclama-tion. "Uncle" Orange Seely sr., who, by the way, as one of the presidential electors on the Republican ticket, occupies oc-cupies a place away up on the ticket, had created a good deal of mystery which later turned to merriment, when he arose while nominations for representative repre-sentative were in order.and got almost through an excellent nominating speech sp-eech that had them all guessing as he had not yet got to the naming of his man when he realized that he was a little bit ahead of things. When the nominations for county attorney were called for, however, he got in his speech for B. W. Dalton of Castledale for that office and the nomination was made by acclamation. David H. Wood of Huntington, who has served a term as county surveyor was presented by Peter Nielson and the nomination carried by acclamation. The nomination for assessor was the only one that was contested after the work was well underway, but for this job Ferron came forward with Leon P. Ralphs', who was placed in nomination nomi-nation by F. A. Killpack, Green River came with Andrew Wimmer, and Seymour Sey-mour Olsen of Emery presented the name of J. Darwin Brinkerhoff. The matter was soon cleared up however, when Mr .Ralphs withdrew from the race in favor of Mr. Wimmer, followed follow-ed by Mr. Olsen withdrawing the name of Mr. Brinkerhoff. This left Mr. Wimmer alone in the race and the nomination was made by acclamation. acclam-ation. There now being only the office of I clerk to fill, that office having been passed earlier in the game, a recess of ten minutes was taken in which to come to some understanding as to this office, and, on again convening, J. Darwin Brinkerhoff of Emery was placed in nomination by L. W. Peterson Peter-son and the nomination made by acclamation. ac-clamation. S. P. Snow sr. was reelected county chairman and W. F. Fail county secretary sec-retary for the coming two years and the convention adjourned.
