Billeg "Future of Huntington" Hon. Geo. M. Miller With the rendition of the program reproduced re-produced above, Huntington last, night welcomed the arrival of the electric current into that town the fifth community com-munity in Emery county to enjoy this modern necessity. The "juice" was switched on at six o'clock and following I the act the people of Huntington, joined join-ed by a large number of well-wishing fiiends from all the neighboring towns, gave t emselvesup to the spirit of celebration, cele-bration, topping it off with duncing in both of the commodious halls. The streets and buildings were beautifully beau-tifully decorated for the occasion, many of he trimmings being shipped from Sait Lake City. The company did itself it-self proud in the decorations and lighting light-ing effects, making excellent use of the opportunity in displaying the uses and advantages of electricitv. Tired of getting along without the bhs ings of the magic electric current any longer a group of wideawake Huntington Hunt-ington citizens decided early this spring to take it upon themselves to give their town an electric light and power system and took immediate steps to do so. The general public rallied about them, taking tak-ing stock in the enterprise and otherwise other-wise showing their interest. Work had no more then commenced, however, than the Utah Power & Light Co. cast a wistful eye Huntington-ward Huntington-ward with the result that they soon secured se-cured the local people's franchise, and j immediately commenced work on the construction of a transmission line from Black Hawk, the closest generating plant of the company, from which plant the current will be furnished for a time at least. The change of ownership made it possible for Huntington to get an excellent system sooner than probable with the home enterprise. The local people were treated well in the transfer too, being amply reimbursed for all the preliminary work done. The Progress heartily joins in congratulating con-gratulating the people of Huntington on this decided addition to their already large list of modern improvements. We are unable to reproduce for our readers any of the good things given by the speakers at the big banquet as the Progress went to press before that time. |
