Show A TRIBUTE OF ESTEEM TO FRED W. FAIL I By Josie E. Childs We laid him to rest wrapped in the flag, The flag he loved so dear; And loving hands brought flowers And laid upon his bier. They stng the songs he loved to hear, They spoke in words of praise Of his work when but a sturdy youth, And his worth in later days. He was a hero in our eyes, Who fought at Gettysburg, ! Who loved the martial music, And honored the dear old flag; Who in his laier days would live The glorious part again. When he was on the battle-field, With its misery, death, and pain. He answered to his country's call, He hastened to the fight, When his veins were full of youthful fire His step was quick and light. He saw his comrades 'round him fall, Their white drawn faces could see, j As they were pierced by the foe man's ball, In their march for victory. He has answered now the Master's call, In his cheerful, willing way, When his form was faltering, weak and worn, His hair was turned to gray. We feel 'tis best to let him go, This blessed rest he's won, But we'll meet him in the great beyond, j When this life's work is done. |
