Show PRIZE HERD IS DOOMED. Veterinarians Fail to Eradicate Foot and Mouth Disease Among 200 Cattle Valued at $80,000. Chicago. A prize herd of blooded cattle owned by Enos M. Barton, a wealthy manufacturer, and valued at $80,000, has been ordered killed by government inspectors, it was announced an-nounced Thursday, because several of the cattle were found to be affected with foot and mouth disease. The herd containing 200 cattle was condemned a month ago, but Dr. S. E. Bennett of the federal bureau of animal industry postponed ordering the animals killed, as he had hoped to eradicate the disease. |
