Show DEATH OVERTAKES i!rtMN M. OLSEN Grim death again visited one of the pioneer families of the valley last Monday morning when John M. Olsen, a former resident of the Dale but con- j siderable of a traveler for the past several sev-eral years, was almost instantly killed when a heavy rock fell from the face of coal at which he was picking at the Clear Creek mine, striking the unfortunate unfor-tunate man on the head and carrying him down to the floor beneath its weight. Fred Young of, Orangeville was the only witness of the unfortunite accident and it was he who lifted the j stone from his friend's body as the 1 latter groaned the words "For God's sake lift the rock off." His neck was broken and his scalp badly torn by the rock. ; The body, accompanied by Mr. Young, was brought to the Dale last Wednes-i Wednes-i day evening and lay in state at the ! home of his sister, Mrs. Carl Berg, at whose place his aged mother is living, until the funeral which was held yesterday at noon The services were very largely at-tened, at-tened, the funeral being one of the largest held in the Dale. Elders 0. J. Anderson and J. Wellington Seely spoke and their talks were enjoyed by the bereaved be-reaved relatives and friends. The deceased was quite a wanderer, he having visited seven states between the time he last visited his folks here(in Juneland his fatal employment at Clear Creek. He had been quite a lumberman lumber-man in the past and his work in the mine wa9 unusual with him as he rather disliked this kind of work. John Martin Olsen was born at Spring City 48 years agj, the son of Henning and Stena Olsen. His parents moved to Castle Valley when he was 15 years of age and they have made their home here since that time. The deceased leaves his aged mother and the following follow-ing full brothers and sisters: Henning Olsen, (whose exact whereabouts are not known, he having been away from home some six years;) Mrs. Mary U. Forrest of Eckert, Colo., and Mrs. Mai Berg of Castledale, in addition to three half brothers, Victor of MountainHome, Nad of Castledale and A. Seymour of of Emery. |
