Show HOWELL MEETS DEFEAT. Congressman From First District Fails to Knock the Persimmon. Salt Lake City. Two Republican conventions were held on August 9 one in Salt Lake City, the other in Ogden to nominate the candidates for representatives in congress from the two congressional districts of the state. In the Salt Lake convention, Charles R. Mabey of Bountiful, Davis county, was named the nominee of the Second congressional district, on the third ballot. He beat out Theodore Theo-dore L. Holman of Salt Lake City. Timothy C. Hoyt of Ogden was the victor in the First congressional district dis-trict convention in Ogden. Like the successful candidate in the Second district, he was nominated on the third ballot. Congressman Joseph Howell of Cache county, who now represents the First district in the lower house of congress, was beaten in the Ogden convention. |
