Show DE WEESE PAYS THE PENALTY Man Convicted of Murdering Wife Executed Ex-ecuted at Utah State Prison. Salt Lake City. Howard De Weese, convicted wife slayer, was executed at the state penitentiary Friday morning, morn-ing, May 24, all efforts to have his sentence commuted to life imprisonment imprison-ment having failed. De Weese, self-confessed burglar, was convicted of having killed his wife by beating her head and face with a flatiron twisted in a towel. Her body was found several days later, the murder mur-der occurring on September 22, 1916. De Weese gave himself up in Chicago on December 9, 1916, but steadfastly "enied his guilt, declaring Mrs. De 'eese was murdered while he was ab-ent ab-ent from their room, and that as he Knew he would be charged with the crime, he had left town and was endeavoring en-deavoring to run down the real murderer. |
