Show Tree That Wouldn't Die. One of the giant redwoods in Mendocino Men-docino county, California, has shown that in spite of its combined foes, the wind and the forest fire, it has made up its mind to keep right on living in the same spot where it has stood for dozens of years. During a terrible storm on the mountain the top of this big tree was broken off, and later the trunk was nearly destroyed by a forest for-est fire;ret enough vitality remained for a young tree to rise from the roots of the older one and to grow up within the wide trunk which serves as a protection pro-tection against the wind. The original tree was a magnificent specimen more than 11 feet in diameter, towering high in the air, and its youthful successor should be of goodly size1 when the old stump Is ready to fall away.
