Show EPSOM SALTS DEPOSIT FOUND NEAR MANTI i Analyses of the epsom salts deposit recently reported from Sanpete county have been made by the foremost chemical chem-ical houses in the United States, including includ-ing some of the big German importers, according to A. V. Tayl r, and the big deposit has been founl to contain the purest epsom salts known. The salts exist in enormous quantities, averaging, in 96 per cent of pure salts. The ledge, I which mav be followed on the surface for several miles, and which is 13 feet ; across, seems to eet large as the devel-1 devel-1 opment work continues. Mr. Taylor considers the finding of epsom salts in Sanpete valley of particular par-ticular importance because of the indication indi-cation it gives that a deposit of potash is beneath it. The United States government gov-ernment has for years had its agents in the field in search of potash and Mr. Taylor considers the finding of the ledge of epsom salts as the best evidence yet discovered of the existence in this coun try of the mineral the government ia hunting. He bases his belief on the fact that conditions in Sanpete county and those in Strassfurt, Germany, the world's great potash field, are identical in many respects. He said : "Conditions in Sanpete county are strikingly similar to those in Strassfurt, Germany, whence millions and millions of tons of potash have come. In the SanDete discovery are the anhydrite, which is merely epsom salts with the water out: then comes gypsum, then slight traces of glauberite, then gvp-sumite, gvp-sumite, kleserite, epsomite and rock salt. These are the same things which occur at Strassfurt abov- the potush, and it was while mining the rock salt that the potash wa; accidentally opened open-ed up. I think therefore reasonable to believe that we may look for our great potash deposits in Sanpete county." According to Mr. Taylor the epsom salts mine itself will be a valuable producer, pro-ducer, as its output is so nearly pure that it is ready for use as soon as taken from the ledge. Physici ts throughout the entire district, he said, are now using us-ing it with perfect success. Epsom salts wholesales at $40 a ton f. o. b. the cars, and the tonnage of the Sanpete mine, Mr. Taylor declares, would be practically inexhaustiole. |
