Rome. A report reached Rome from Petrograd on Thursday that Italy had sent a note to Austria which virtually vir-tually amounted to an ultimatum. The note is said to embody the minimum terms upon which Italy will consent to conclude an agreement with Austria. Aus-tria. It is impossible to confirm this report here. General opinion in Rome is that an agreement may still be reached. Nevertheless, Nev-ertheless, military preparations are being continued with the greatest energy en-ergy along the frontier where Austria is concentarting troops. Copenhagen. An Italian correspondent correspond-ent of the National Tidende sends to his newspaper an interview had at San Remo with a former Roumanian minister. The minister is quoted as having said that Roumania demanded certain cessions of territory from Austria Aus-tria in return for remaining neutral in the war, but that Austria refused to acquiesce. The minister, according to the correspondent, cor-respondent, added that there exists a defensive alliance between Roumania and Italy and that Italy would not accept ac-cept any offer from Austria without having received the sanction of Roumania. |
