Show TIMELY WORK WITH POULTRY Houses Should Be Thoroughly Cleaned and Sprayed In Endeavor to Get Rid of Parasites. (Prepared by the United States Department Depart-ment of Agriculture.) Chickeu houses should be thoroughly cleaned and sprayed, and an effort made to get rid of all mites and lice, as these pests affect the fertility of the flock, cause hens to leave their nest, and kill young chicks. Breeding stock should be carefully selected and well housed nnd fed, in order to insure large hatching and strong chicks. Ample nests should be provided for both the setting hens and the layers. Care should be taken to protect chicks from rats and from becoming chilled as a result of getting wet. Eggs shouW be gathered regularly, whether they are to be used for hatching hatch-ing or are to be sold. The dirty eggs and the eggs that have been set upon for one or more days which are sold to local dealers, result In a lower price to the farmers and are costing then thousands of dollar a month. |
