Show 33,000 YOUNG WOMEN WANTED BY RED CROSS ' I A call for 30,000 young women of America to enter the nursing profession profess-ion as an active reserve for the army anil navy nurse corps has been issued hy Red Cross officials and, because there is an yet no selective draft for inducting women into the nursing service, ser-vice, the response must be made by volunteers. The call is meant only for those young women who have the physical phy-sical and mental equipment necessary to the performance of nurses' duties, together with energy, initiative, and the desire for a useful career. The very first requisite is good health, the next is age. Only candidates not less than nineteen and not more than thirty five years of age will be accepted. Applications for entry into this service ser-vice will be handled by the local Red Cross chapter There are .also needed in the Red Cross reserve army battlefield searchers search-ers (men) canteen workers (men and women), social workers (men and women), and mechanical engineers, "'so men to be used in the transportation, transporta-tion, military relief, and field and store service. Volunteer workers are preferable but where necessary a salary sal-ary sufficient to meet expenses will be Paid. Robust health is required. No woman with an immediate relative in the U. S. service, here or abroad, will he accepted as the government will not issue passports to such persons.
