Show THEIR GOLDEN WEDDING (The following lines were written by Col A. P. Johnson of Huntington on the occasion of the recently celebrated golden wedding of Mr. and Mrs.A. C. Van Buren of Orangeville.) Long years ago there wandered A little pilgrim band. From Salt Lake City southward Into wild Indian lands. A place of desolation No inviting scene was there, No welcome was extended, Their downcast hearts to cheer. But in the Sanpete valley, Two hundred miles away. They laid out Manti City, In future years to stay. The old. that were, are gone to rest, Their story has been told, And silver streada adorn the head Of those, then young, now old. But few are left to tell us of That little Pilgrim band, With joy we hail those noble few, And Bhake their friendly hands. We've here a pair of veterans Who there and then did fix,-They fix,-They cast their lots together In years of sixty six. Thus they ventured to unite As happy man and wife. And helped to build up Manti, And spend their future life. On the first day of December Just fifty years age On their matrimonial journey They started vou must know. They've traveled on together These many years gone by, And shared each others sorrows, Likewise each others joy And thru these mountain valleys Where the savage sought repose. They have helped to make the desert To blosson as the rose. We hail this patriarchial pair We extend the friendly hand, They're on the downhill side of life, boon on the brink they'll stand. We wish them well as on they tread. May joys bedeck their way, And may they have but happy thoughts Of their Golden Wedding Day. A. P. J. November 28 th, 1916. |
