Decision Was Based Upon the Financial Finan-cial Condition of the Union and Appointment of Commission by President. Denver. The Colorado coal strike has been called off, effective December Decem-ber 10. This action was taken by district No. 15 of the United Mine Workers of America by a unanimous vote late Tuesday night after an all-day session, ses-sion, and ratines the report of the international in-ternational executive board introduced recommending the termination of the strike. The action of the convention carries car-ries a recommendation of further efforts ef-forts to unionize the mines of Colorado Colo-rado and a pledge to reduce the wage 6cale in the unionized mines to the level of the scale paid by the large companies. This reduction amounts to 10 per cent. The final vote was taken on a motion mo-tion to adopt a resolution introduced by a select committee.' This committee commit-tee was appointed after a report from the international executive committee of the United Mine Workers had been presented recommending that the 6trike be called off. The decision of the international board was explained to the delegates as having been based upon the financial condition of the union and the fact that President Wilson Wil-son recently appointed a commmission to which the miners may be able tc refer their differences with their employers. |
