Show i HUNTINGTON Last Saturday and Sunday was conference con-ference here and it was a successful gathering. The house was near full the 1 first day and continued all through. There w.i.s a re presentation from every t ward in the stake, and the visiting I brethern were Apostle Orson F. Whitney and Rulon S. Wells, one of the seven t presidents. The first meeting was held j Friday evening and should have been a conjoint officers meeting of the Mutuals but the youn men failed to appear, so the young ladies went it alone. The verdict of the conference is that no bet-ter bet-ter talk has been handed out to the : saints. A good spirit prevailed at all the sessions. It appa s the Devil got j uneasy at the anity o' the gathering, and he got hold of the b elio v-s and raised such a breeze that the whole house shook and the doors and windows rattled rat-tled and a number of trees in town j were blown down, but with all that it did not break the interest of the speakers speak-ers and listeners. The selections given bv the choir were very good, especially to visitors who hear them but once each year. Altogether the conference was a success. At priesthood meeting on Monday evening they concluded to change ths time of meeting from Monday to Sunday evening to acc n late a few who seldom sel-dom come to meeting. This week the students of the district school are in eirnest. They are working work-ing the 100 mark. At times thoughts of the negligent hours of the past will cross their minis and they wonder "what the harvest wdl he." Last Monday afternoon the Indian War comrades visited school and rendered rend-ered an impromptu program. The i schools came together and M. J. Black- burn gave a talk of welcome. Captain Collard made a few remarks, after which the visitors in turn gave a short sketch of experience and sang songs for one hour. The little folks seemed to enjoy the social. Eight comrades were present. After a pleasant hand-shake and "come again" from the teachers they took their leavT feeling it was good to be there. For several days it has been cloudy and threatening to storm and the wind I has blown all grades, from soft to hard, making it disagreeable for those who are out at labor. Mrs. Mina Miller has just returned from the bedsile of her husban 1, Geo. M., at the hospital in Salt Like City. She reports him getting along nicely after an operation for appendicitis last Friday. A washout in the canal Wednesday cut the water off from town and Thursday Thurs-day morninj a posse went to make repairs re-pairs and get the w-iter back. The closing exercises of the district school will be held next Thursday eve- |
