Show 0. F. WHITNEY HtAOS HIS "ELIAS" The geeat Mormon Poet .Orson F. Whitney read his m isterpiece "Elias" in ' tne academy last Sun Jay evening to a I crowded house. People from every part of the county were present and enjoyed the greatest literary feast this county ever knew. "Elias" was preceded by a numoer of readings of Apostle Wnitney's own composition, com-position, which filled the literary lover i with heavenly emotions that will be re- 1 membered. The great epic "Elias" recounts, re-counts, in most beautiful language, the council of heaven, where the pian of redemption was made, and the Son of the Morning was cast down, while the Son of God was chosen as the redeemer j of the world. Riphtly has Apostle ' Whitney's "Elias" been called a com pani on piece to Milton's "Paradise Lost. " We do not pose as critic of literature, but this much we know, that never in the history of Emery county have we had such a literary treat. The musical numbers rendered during the evening by Leslie Hickman of Provo , Miss Olive Nixon of Huntington and R. j Y. Robison of tne E. 3. A. were exceptionally excep-tionally good. Nor can we consistently neglect to mention the excellent work of the choir. Mr. Robison has done some very good work with the choir the past winter. |
