Show BLACK HAWK COAL j IS NOW shipping! Ogdea capital, uder the name of the Black Hawk Coal company, has recently recent-ly successfully invaded the great coal fields of Carbon county in southeastern Utah, the result being that large quantities quan-tities of coal are being taken from the mines and placed on the markei. It is said that the coal deposits of that section sec-tion of country are practically inexhaustible inexhaus-tible and the report of the engineer having the mining of the new company in hand indicates that the Black Hawk company has possession in 'he heart of the coal belt of the very best. It has not been long since the Og-den Og-den people took hold of the coal mining min-ing business in Cirbon country, but their progress has been so rapid that tne older dealers in that line are really astonished. It is unusual for a company to be prepared to place coal on the market is so short a time after beginning begin-ning development work. In this instance it appears that the Black Hawk people opened a great deposit of coal near the surface and that shipments became possible as soon as the proper apparatus for taking the coal from the mines and transporting it down the mountain side to a railroad could be installed. The company was not lacking in fun.s and, of course, the building operations were soon accomplished. Less than a year ago the work of development was begun and todiy, says Secretary E. S. Rolapp, the c m-pany m-pany is prepared to place a large q nn-tity nn-tity of the best coal in the state o.i the market. Shipments were begun M mday and it is likely that before the week is out Ogden homes will be usijjg Black Hawk coal. Ogden is the centr d business busi-ness headquarters of the compviy and the production of the mines mean considerable con-siderable to the commercial i imprests of the city. The coal will be shipped over the Denver & Rio Grand railway I the road at this time baing able to handle han-dle a greater tonnage than heretofore. Mr. Rolapp is of the opinion that the Black Hawk will be shipping coal for many years to come. There a-e three tunnels into the mounta i of ' i?i and from the three openii.gs the great deposit de-posit is being made to yield a great coal tonnage. The property embraces approximately 1,200 acres of coal land and the vein varies in thickneis from 25 to 30 feet. It is located on the Utah Southern jrailroal, about fiarteen mile-! soith-; soith-; west from Price, a station one hundred and fifty-seven iiilosfmm Ogden. ! Work was co nmonced in Fhrunry, ; 1911, and has ne-n progressing ever ; since, tne eo rmnny having invested ! approximately h tlf a nillim dollar-inn ; the ground, -i ' equipovl the mine with th-; latest i n v-d el trie pow- er i lant, rna -hin-rv, drills, etc. . As the co I crtips u . high on . the I mountain s le. it wis necssjiry to j build an inc ine of one and three-quart-I ers miles in lneth in order to transport j the coal fro n the opening to the tipple, where it is screened and prepared for the miri-t. Th company ha- built a large ijum-ber ijum-ber of modern residences and a large store, which is operated by th- Carbon Mercantile companv, no expense having hav-ing been spared in making this an ideal camp, and all construction work has been done in i rtr-it-cla-ii and complete manner. . . The coal irf a high grade-bituminous product, which has excellent cocking qualities and it runs high in British termai;units. The output for the present will be about 300 tons per day, but after all preparitory work has been complete!, it is expected that the capacity will be 1,503 tons daily. The company has just commenced shipping and it finds there is a large demand for this excellent coal. The Consolidated Fuel company and the Castle Valley Coal company are neighbors and with these three mines running at full capacity there should not be the usual winter scarcity of coal.
