Show Is Easy Money. Suing the city seems to be a profitable profit-able business for lawryers and clients in Chicago as in New York. Addressing Address-ing the Fire Insurance Club of Chicago Chic-ago recently, Henry B. Bale, a lawyer, said that the city paid out each j'ear nearly $1,000,000 in judgments for personal injuries. "Since 1S99," Mr. Bale declared, "Chicago has paid $4,-000,000 $4,-000,000 in judgments returned in siuts to recover for sidewalk accidents alone. It has been so easy to see the city and win that suits have been started by hundreds of people to get money. There never was a liability insurance company which could afford to underwrite the city." |
