Show SESSION OF DISTRICT COURT IS PROLONCED The January term of the Emery county division of the seventh judicial district court is proving much more lengthy than was anticipated. Where the sessions for Emery county rarely take a full week, the present term will extend well along into next week. Court did not convene until Tuesday, Monday being a holiday. The various cases were given their settings, and in the afternoon a jury was secured and the case of the State of Utah, vs. Martin Mart-in Blank and Henry Calvert, accused of defacing and altering certain marks and j brands on sheep purported to have been I stolen from the herd of I. A. Richards j of Huntington, was taken up. Samuel ' Ki.ig of Salt Lake and A. D. Dickson, our local attorney, were defendant's attorneys. at-torneys. Considerable evidence was of-' of-' fered on both sidts. It appears that j of the two uefendants, who are both Frenchmen, the former, Blank, is the owner of a number of sheep, but, not i content with the natural increase in his dock, took ii into his heaj to add about eighteen head from the neighboring herd of I. A. Richards, removing the wool bearing the brand of the latter, and substituting therefor his own brand The dclense argued, however, that the new mar was placed on the eighteen head merely because of the obliteration of the old one which was wearing off. No sign of tne jld mark could be found, tnough, according to evidence, showing that the wool must have been removed ai.el accordingly tne jury, after two or three hours' deliberation, returned a verdict of guiltyThursduy evening. Sentence Sen-tence was postponed until Monday at two o'clock, when motion will be made lor a new trial on the grounds of newly discovered additional evidence. Henry Calvert, the joint defendant, was acquit" ed as insufficient incriminating eviuence was produced. - - The case i.f the State of Utah, vs. Joseph Morasco is in progress as we go to press.
