Show Asparagus Ground. Asparagus does well on any well drained rich garden soil. The land chosen should be open, protected if possible on the north and west, and be free from stones and tree roots. It should have the sun's rays all day. A southern exposure is best. The ground should be thoroughly drained. Unless stagnant water can be removed, re-moved, the bed should not be set. Above all things, the land should be well supplied with plant food, because the plant is a gross feeder. When once set, the bed will last for years, provided abundant manure and fertilizer fer-tilizer are applied annually. There are only a few varieties of commercial importance im-portance and it is difficult to choose among these which is best. They all do well under the same liberal feeding treatment. No one who plans to grow asparagus should be without Hexa-men's Hexa-men's book on the subject. It gives full detailed information on growing this crop, both in the home garden and in commercial plantations. |
