Show TROUBLES WITH TEACHERS A preasent should read the following, fltn Jum a ccr ( rr t ci t ly which is 'good to remember, as children often come home from school with exaggerated exagge-rated tales of woe, which the parent should investigate before taking action: "Before any ot her fault is corrected cor-rected the conscientious father must I teach his child to be attentive and j obedient to his teaeher in school. Each ! day the unruly child, who may be a : very sweet child at home, even tho J inattentive and disorderly at school, ! may come home with a story of wrong. He says the teacher has discriminated against him, that he has punished him, when the lad next to him was at fault; that the teacher refuses to answer any of the child's simple questions; that the teacher keeps him in after school because of no fault of the pupil. In the beginning the parent simply advises the boy to get along with his teacher the best he can. Gradually the parents come to think that their child is being treated too harshly. Thereafter the child wi 11 look askance at everything the teacher does and says. Instead of implicit confidence in what the teacher does the lad is being be-ing led to question authority. The mistake often made by parents is instead of having a kind, friendly talk with their boy, and painting out to him that whatever the teacher had done was probably right and that he had overlooked a dozen trifling wrong-! doings before refering to one, and that the teacher may make an occasional mistake, as do other human beings, nstead of at once taking the side of the boy. If the case seems serious, go with the boy to,his teacher, and in a spirit of fairness and kindness get at the facts in the matter. If you find that the boy is in the wrong point out his mistake, an! assis-bim assis-bim to avoid such mistakes in the fut ture. Beware of the temptation to use corporal punishment. If used too often it is not effective and only serves to harden and embitter. If, however. you are not getting results, it may be necessary to occasionally resort to stronger punishment than t ilk. If so keep a firm grip on yourself so that the boy will realize, that even thoughyou are using hash measures you love him and that you are certain there will be more gratifying results in the future. |
