(t means anything from "yes" and "do" to "please get off my hat." When In doubt always say "Thank you." When you give a servant anything he says "Thank you," and when he (Ives you something he says "Thank you." The first thing an Englishman notices when he comes to America Is that nobody says "Thank you." He gives the taxi driver "thrlppence" and then misses his favorite "Thank you." At least what the tail driver says doesn't sound like "Thank you." When you reach France, however, you may relapse Into all your little home comforts. Tou may pick your teeth and manicure your nails in a restaurant, and you can eat anything you like with your fingers. You may omit your dally tub and patronize the "parfumerie." But If you wish to be a gentleman you must wear smart clothes, smart clothes consisting chiefly of gayly colored col-ored waistcoats, socks and ties. |
