R. Jewkes of Price was bringing in a load of passengois when some of the gearing broke, making the car unmanageable. It shot down the emoankmeiit, tipping oer at the same time and pinning the passengers under it. Ernesi Childs, one of the number, says in nis own words, "I thougnt I was holding the whole weight on my back," but with extraordinary presence pres-ence of mind he was able to extricate himseif and save the life of Miss Leona Johnson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Jolinson. After getting free from the car he found Wm. Jewkes and the driver, Mr. Sam Jewkes, under the car in such a way that after releasing the former they were able to Jilt the car, with the aid of Lester Stilson, who was along, so that Sam was able to get out with but a fe.v bruises ar.d a big tear. They all came out 0- K. and walked to town arriving home at 5 in the morning feeling that it was good to be alive. Our Salt Lake visitors have returned after having enjoyed the trip in a pleasurable and educational maimer. Many, especially our teachers, took in the N. E. A. and are brimful of the spirit of the greatest convention that has ever b en held in the state of Utah. : Our town should be better for the influence in-fluence they bring home with them. Mrs. J. 0. Luke has been very ill since her return from Salt Lake. The primary officers gave thechildren an outing Tuesday. Mr. and Mrs. Wilford Humphry have returned from Suiina where they were summoned to atten 1 the funeral of Mrs. Humphry's uncle, Hans Clawson, on July 3 d. Her sister and husband, Mr. and Mrs. Sam Jensen, accompanied them back but they will leave for home this week. i Mr. Wilford Thayne has dropped in on us for a short visit. He expects to accompany the veterinarian, the Drs. Massy, on their tour through New Mex-ic: Mex-ic: and Ariz -n i in the near future. i Mrs. Jasper Ribertson was taken ' very til Saturday last. Her friends almost al-most despaired of her life for some I time. ' Mis. Robert Davis is again very ill. Mfsses Lucile and Alta Luke accompanies accom-panies their uncle and aunt, Mr. an I Mrs. los. Luke, home from Salt Lake 1 on an extended visit. I The club had a most enjoyable out-: out-: ing Wednesday and a large number ' turned out to make it a success which it was in every particular. It is good to get away j from work occasionally and should be come more of a custom than it is, for all work and no play makes Jack a dull boy. Mrs. Wm. Christopher of Eureka is visiting relatives and friends for a short time. I Mr. and Mrs. Bryant Moifitt are in from KeniKvorth visiting friends and relatives. Mr. Bert Moffitt was brought home from the saw mill Wednesday. He is sull'ering a bad attack of pleurisy and I it was thought wise to get him where j he could have the care of a physician. j Mrs" Maria Buchannan and children are here from I..Ueo visiting Mrs. Bu-channan's Bu-channan's mother, Mrs. James Killian. i Her old friends are glad to see her wite them again. |
