Show B. Y. U. OPENING TUESDAY, OCT. 7TH With the opening of tne Brigham Young University October 7, the institution in-stitution commences the year's work under unusually favorable conditions. The beautiful new young ladies' gymnasium gym-nasium and amusement hall has been completed and is now ready for use. It is a structure of which any school might justly feel proud, and one that will be a source of delight to faculty and studen ts. The heating plant has been thoroughly j renovat V, and comfort in every room is assured C. R. Johnson of tjie B. Y. U. musical faculty, has been accorded the honor of j acting as adjudicator at a great music j festival held in Alberta, Canada. Professors Buss and Smart have returned re-turned from an educational tour of Sevier and Millard counties in the interests in-terests of the institution. The following educators are now in i the field. President G. H. Brimhall and ' Professors Gad.nundson and McClellan in the Duchesne country; Prof. Alfred Osmond in Idaho; Professors Christen-sen Christen-sen and Campbell in Kane and Washington Wash-ington counties, and Prof. Hyrum Man-waring Man-waring in San Juan county. President Hinckley will leave in the near future tor the Big Horn Basin. The following members of the faculty have been spending the summer at the University of Chicago: Dr. Harvey : Fletcher, as teacher and in doing special j work in chemistry; Professors C. E. : Maw, William J. Snow, J. M. Jensen, C. H. Carrol, Mary J. Ollerton and Miss Fern Chipman. The faculty will be strengthened by the addition of the following new members: mem-bers: Prof. James L. Barker, who has spent three years in Paris, head of the Department of Modern Languages; Prof. Mary J. Ollerton, recently graduated grad-uated from Columbia, in the Department Depart-ment of Education; Prof. C. H. Carrol, head of the Biology Department; Miss Fern Chipman, assistant in the Domestic Do-mestic Science Department; Miss Floy Kartchner, in Domestic Art; Herald Clark, in the Commercial Department, and Adelbert Webb, assistant in the Department of Physical Education. |
