CONVENTION , i HELD AT ORANGEVILLE The regular annual Mutual Improvement Improve-ment convention was held last Sunday at Orangeviile with representatives from the officers and teachers of every ward in the stake in attendance. Elder Oscar Kirkam, of Sait. Lake ! City, former principal of the L. D. S. ! university, but recently appointed field secretary for the M, I. A., was in attendance, at-tendance, as was also Mrs. Bennion . Diamond of tne general board. The meetings were given over to the discussion and explanation of M. I. A. day ant), the work of the M. LA. boy scouts organization. Action was also tdken toward working up a civic pride interest, with the object of improving homes, public places and vacant lots. A stake committee, composed of Mary S. Fo.vier, of Huntington; Miss Lola Hansen, of Ferron; and Mrs. Mary A. Sorenson, of Castledale; was appointed and these will attend to .the appointment appoint-ment of ward committees. Discussing M. I. A. Day, a set of rules was formed th it will more than likely do away with the disatisfactlun of last year, when the lack of any set rules caused some trouble in arranging for the stake meet. Students from other towns attending central institutions, institu-tions, will be relegated to their own ward; competing parties must also have been resident members of the competing compet-ing association for one-third of the time to be eligible. . To help out the overcrowding of the final stake tryout, the wards of the stake have been divi led into dist1 iets as follows: 1st district, Emery, Ferron, Cla A'soTi and M'den war's; 2d district, '.'antledalc. Orangeviile and Lawrence wards: 3d district, Huntington, Cleveland, Cleve-land, Elmo and Victor wards. Tryouts will be held ie these districts and only winners in these tryouts will be'allowed to comp. te in the stake meet. Again, the church has been divided into sixteen districts, our district being No. 10, with Alpine, Nebo, Wasatch" Carbon and Utah stakes in the division, the latter stake taking the lead in arranging ar-ranging for the church district, finals. The following activities only will be contested at Salt Lake at the June conference: con-ference: Retold stories, mixed double quartet, oration, junioi boys chorus, and junior girls chorus. The following subjects were discussed bv stake and ward membees and visitors: visit-ors: How to get 100 per cent efficiency out of stake and ward officers; explanation explana-tion of the 3 year course on the development de-velopment of character, under the heads, courage, conduct and success; training the boy; developing the boy; wake up musically; ward officers problems; civic pride; studies for 1013-14; a: ' testimony. |
