Show Emery, County Democrats Nominate Candidates The democrats of Emery county held their convention last Saturday in the courthouse, the scene of the two former convention viz, republican and socialist, and named a full ticket to present to the people at the coming election. Differing little from the former conventions, con-ventions, and with the very best of feeling apparently, the whole ticket was voted to be the unanimous choice of the convention after vhe various minor contests had heen decided. Beginning .their session at about eleven o'clock "in the morning, with County Chairman C. E. Larsen in the chair, little was done until afternoon, the former session being used but for the appointment of committees, etc. Good representations were present from all of the larger precincts except Green River and Cleveland, but these respective places were represented on the ticket, nevertheless, the followers-loyal followers-loyal of Jefferson giving them good positions. The following were named for the several committees by Chairman C. E. Larsen. Credentials, J. K. Reid, Carl Wilberg, P. E. Johnson, Hyrum Cook, Rasmus Johnson, Alma Scaker, Wm. Guymon (representing Clawson); Permanent Per-manent Organization and Order of Business, Jasper Robertson, Mart Jensen, Jen-sen, Thomas L. Allred; Platform and Resolutions, Ed Fox, Rf. J. Blackburn, Hector Evans, Hyrum Cook, Alma Williams, Alma Staker, Wm. Guymon. After the appointment .of the above 'committees tne session was adjourned until 2 o'clock, and the delegates repaired re-paired to . the Anderson .hotel, where dinner had been prepared for all visiting visit-ing brethren by the local delegates. Regular order of business was rec-commended rec-commended by that committee in its rep rt, and the committee on platform, in addition to reaffirming allegiance to principals of democracy as ennunciated in ihe national ands:ate platforms, pledged pledg-ed the party's sunuort to national, state and judicial ticKels and the candidate to the state legislature to use his best and earnest efforts to secure passage in the state legislature of an act that will have for its object therecognition and proper reward of the valuable services rendered the state by the Indian war veterans. They further promised to the taxpayers a clean, conservative and economical administration, and pledged themselves not only to the construction of good roads but also to their proper maintenance in all portions por-tions of the county impartially, and favoring the employment of local iabor on county and state roads to the end that such employment will be distributed distri-buted equitably among the taxpayers of the several road districts embraced in the county. Following the adoption of reports, the election of the following candidates was proceeded with i Representative L. P.OVESON, Cleveland 4 Year Commissioner P. E. JOHNSON, Huntington 2-Year Commissioner RASViUS JOHNSON, Emery Clerk W. G. PEACOCK, Jr., Orangeville Recorder HECTOR EVANS, Castledale Treasurer CARL BERG. Castledale Sheriff J. R. EARP, Green River Assessor THOS. L. ALLRED, Ferron At orney GEO. M. MILLER, Huntington Superintendent of Schools M J. BLACKBURN, Huntington Surveyor IRA R. BROWNING, Castledale Messrs. L. P. Ovesori. Wm. G. Peacock, Pea-cock, Hectcr EvHns, Thos. L. Allred, Geo. M. Miller, M. J. Blackburn, Ira R. Browning, and J. R. Kaip were n -iminaced by acclamation, all of these men seeming to be the unanimous choice of the ' convention, notwithstanding notwith-standing that there was little or no caucusing of delegations. The fighting that was done was done on the open floor and but one recess was taken, viz., when the nomination of a sheriff came up after being left till the last. Both commissionerships were gcontest-ed, gcontest-ed, however. For the 4-year term Huntington Hunt-ington placed in nomination the name of P. E. Johnson, Emery the name of Rasmus Johnson, and Lawrence the name of Ole. N. Tuft. Numerous seconding speeches were made and arguments given back and forth. P. E. Johnson, however, won out with 15 votes as against Rasmus Johnson's 10 and Ole N. Tuft 4. For the 2-year commissioner, Emery came in with the name of Rasmus Johnson and Lawrence but up Bishop Tuft, the former for-mer winning this place by the vote of 27 to 3. When the treasurers hip came up all was silent for several minutes, until Emery came with the name of Alma Williams, Castledale following with Carl Berg. Castledale was backward back-ward in asking for this latter job, having already secured about their share, but, notwithstanding this, Berg won out on a vote of 21 to 7. When it came to the electing of county chairman and secretary, it was moved to hold Messrs. Larsen and Williams down to the job again, but the latter begged to decline on account of being located at present too far away from the chairman to properly work in the campaign. Wm. G. Peacock of Orangeville was therefore elected. j None of these men need a word of i introduction. Where they do not enjoy en-joy county-wide popularity they are, in their own communities known for every quality that bespeaks their ability abil-ity to ill the positions if placed in office at the election but a .few weeks ahead. |
