Show Qur Cemeteries One thing that can be verv favorably ! commented on is the unrivalled vigor with which some of our towns have responded re-sponded to the calls made on them by their respective town boards for the improvement im-provement of the natural conditions of the cemeteries in these same towns. Our cities of the dead are as much en- I titled to our care and careful keepiug as the cities of trie living. Those living in these sometimes sadly forgotten resting places are the ones who have given us all we now have and enjoy and it is partly through the hardships endured en-dured in this righteous cause that they are now sleeping long before their allotted al-lotted lease on life and life's pleasures should have expired. Many people, looking into the life ' and industry of a community, are loath to judge the living city or hamlet by the village of the dead often close at hand, and where the latter is neglected and has a forlorn and abject appearance appear-ance a harsh view of the former is very otte.i entertained and a discouraging impression carried away to the everlasting ever-lasting detriment of the community visited. Let this year not be the last for improving im-proving our cemeteries but let us, next : year, remove a few more of the inarus- i tic and uncouth features in and about! the same. |
