Show S. P. PENSION FUND ASSUMES BIC PROPORTION The voluntary pension distributions of the Southern Pacific Company will reach the million dollar mark before the first day of April, tnis year. Since the inauguration of the pension department depart-ment in January, 1903. $948,533 has been voluntarily disbursed among the retired employes of that corporation. The total disbursements for December 1911, were $i7,073. This was divided I among 467 former employes who have j been retired for age, disqualifyinr disability dis-ability and total disability. The total pension disbursements for the year 1911 wre $184,704.05. Since the organization of the pension department the Southern Pacific Company Com-pany has pensioned 692 of its former employe.-.. The number on the pension roll at the close of1911.was.4fi7. These J employes are from the operating de-j de-j partment, train sei vice, motive power department.includingenginemen, main-! main-! tenance of way department, stirs department, traffic department, accounting account-ing department, general offices, ferry and river steamers and Atlantic steam-! steam-! snip lin. s. Tne Southern Pacific p m-I m-I sion system does not require any cj i- tributions trom tne employes during tne time they are in s -rvice, nor at any time. Length of continuous service i-i the only requirement. All payments are ma le from the gereral funds of the railroad. A unique idea of the beneficiaries of the pension bureau the annual reunion has met with unanimous favor. The first affair of this character was held in 1910. This year it has been decided to hold the reunion on May 10, the forty-third forty-third anniversary of the driving of the last spike connecting the Central and Union Pacific railroads. At these affairs these railroads are rebuilt in reminiscence reminis-cence ard the old timeis who have not met for years recount their experiences of the time the first railroad to the west was constructed.
