Show Odd ArtiMclal Eye. In order to increase the resolving power of the microscope, Dr. Kohler of Jena employs for illuminating the object to be examined the ultraviolet rays of the spectrum, which, though highly effective in photography, are totally invisible to the human eye. For focussing and adjusting the Image a kind of artificial eye Is employed, which consists of an eye lens of crystal crys-tal glass and a retina of fluroescent glass. The image formed on this retina re-tina by the ultraviolet rays can be examined visually through an ordinary ordin-ary lens. The fluorescent light, however, how-ever, is injurious to the eye, and this method of examination is sparingly UBed. The Sunday Magazine. |
