Each day the police department makes more and irfore arrests for traffic violations, not only because there is an but also because tnc increasing number of traffic violatcn-sits is cracking down intensifying constantly depaitment operations against the offenders. Logan city monthly receipts have been materially boosted recently through payment of fines by drunken, reckless and ceraless drivers, red light and stop sign runners, drivers who fail to yield the resulting in collisions- .and improper passers and parkers. Importance of the extra money in the city cash register is not, of course, the financial assistance given the city, but the war against traffic offenders that it indicates. Every time a person commits one of the more serious traffic violations running a red light or stop sign, driving while drunk, etc., he endangers human life, hi3 own and that of others, and very frequently causes property damage. The other day a young man who was on. the police departments daily list of money contributors, came into the Iierald-Journoffice and asked that his name be excluded from the list. His offer, of course, was declined. For, as long as there are traffic offenders to find their way to the polices st, this paper will run the names, and thus pos-- ! sibly assist in the law enforcement campaign. Possibly the time will come when there will be no such list, because of there being no violators. But at present, the list is constantly growing, and the fines seem to be getting a little stiffer all the time. The police department should be commended for the efforts being put forth to curb offenses. And remember, the city would rather have les3 money and more safe, sane and lawful driving.
