Maivin Thain entertained a dinner Monday in honor of TODAY'S RECIPE Watermelon Sweet Pickle Rind trom medium-sizemelon 3 cups brown sugar 2 cups white sugar 3 cups cider vinegar pound seeded raisins 1 leinon, sliced thin 1 small stick of cinnamon Today, I am giving the quick and easy way to make this almost best of all pickles. For lack o! space the other recipe will have to go over over. Use a melon with a rather thick rind. Cut the ring in convenient strips, peel off the green rind and cut away every vestige of red on the inner side watermelon pickles are apt to spoil when the ripe pulpy part is not all trimmed away. Cut the strips into small pieces and soak overnight in a mild salt solution. In the morning' rinse, and cook in clear water until the rind is easily pierced witb a fork. While the rind is cooking you can make the syrup: combine the two sugars with the vinegar, bring to a quick boil, add the little stick of cinnamon, broken in large pieces, the seeded raisins, and the lemon sliced very thin. Drop the cooked watermelon rind Into this syrup, simmer for a few minules, pour into hot' Jars and seal. frac-tuiin- g AUGUST FRIDAY, L Benson News Mrs. Samuel Hobbs entertained tlie following guests at a sui prise parly on her husband, Samuel Hobbs, the occasion being his hntliday.
