' The winners this year are Copper Hills Elementary. Last years winner was Lakeridge Elementary. 2,300 pounds of food was gathered by the students at Copper Hills, Magna, Pleasant Green and Lakeridge Elementaries. The C.O.P. deputes loaded trucks on the 12th of May and took the food to Magna Pantry. The copper Days Committee donated a check to the winning school for $100.00 and the Magna Rcc Center will sponsor die winning school at a pool party! Bennett accepting applications to the Chamber to work her church for U.S. Military Academies until Oct. 31 Sen. Bob Bennett (R-Uta- h) announced this week that he is now accepting applications from young men and women interested in entering one of the U.S. Military Academies. Applicants to the Army, Navy, Air Force or Merchant Marine Academies must file before Oct. 31, but applicants are urged to file early because of the lengthy and somewhat complex filing procedures. Applicants must be at least 17 years of age and not older than 23 as of July 1, 2001, and be unmarried with no children or other legal obligations. Bennett said his selection criteria (for recommending applications to an academy) will include SAT and SAC scores, class rank, (GPA), school academic and social records, teacher and counselor evaluations, extracurricular and athletic achievements, leadership potential, and motivation. Personal interviews will be held in December in Salt Lake City, and nominations will be made to the grade-point-avera- ge It wasnt a job academics in January, 2001. Applicants must also apply directly to the academy or academies of their choice. Academy inquiry cards are available through high school counselors, academy liaison officers, or from Sen. Slight increases for school lunch breakfasts planned for next year Parents of children school-age- d attending school in the Granite School District should plan on paying slightly more for their students hot school lunches and breakfasts beginning the opening of school next fall. Proposed increases are: Breakfasts - Elementary, 60 to 65 cents; secondary, 70 to 75 cents; but no change in the $ 1 .25 charged adults. Lunches Elementary from $1 to $1.10; Junior High, from $1.25 to $1.30; but no change in the $1.50 charged Senior High School students. Adults will be charged $2.05 instead of the current $1.90. Granite School District Board announced the need for increased fees as an increase in food and supply costs, and anticipated increased costs for salaries and benefits of lunch room employees. Board members emphasized that despite the proposed increases, student meals remain more than 15 percent below the state average and the lowest along the Wasatch Front Bliss four children: Benjamin, Who is serving a mission in Spain, Katie, Jana Rae, and Angela.
