' The exclusive announcerment made in Saturdays Post that . Irovo would soon have. a new.elec.tric lighting system, metwith the substantial approval of the people in all parts of the cit. For a long tune past Provo has needed an adequate electric lighting sys-- " tea and many times, especially during the. past year, out town has received considerable unfavorable advertising on account of the darkened condition of the streets. This condition has been commented upon at different times by The. Post, but it seemed that the city unable to establish the much needed lighting system to illum..... wa inate Provo as it should be. (However, now that the Electric Coim pany has decided to take '.the matter in hand there is little doubt that Provo will Boon be one of the best lighted cities in the Btate. Some people have looked upon the darkened condition of Provo streets as a saving, but instead of being a Baving it has been a detriment and ancxpcnse7"fof'this"conditi6ncauses people' wbocometo . this city .to look upon Provo as being a town of perhaps two or three 'thousand inhabitants without enough civic pride or energy to prop-- erly light the streets, instead of a hustling city of almost ten thousand inhabitants. With the new lighting system the business interests of the city end all interested in1 its welfare should commence campaign of boosting that would bring results, for if we are to keep abreast of the times we must get out and' hustle with other live towns of this section. We have everything necessary to push Provo right in the front jranks, but unless we do this pushing by advertising and by keeping our city in such condition that it merits favorable comment by all who visit it we aie going to wake up and find ourselves way back in the rear struggling for existence in compe-- . tition with the live cities of the state and country! systematically. POOR ADVERTISING. , There seems to have been undue alrm created over the small situation in Provo by a few d individuals who have pox to Provo some poor judgment give decidedly hard knocks .diadjhe on account of the fewsmallpox eases that have broken out in this city. These reports have been traced since they were first given out and it now appears that cerfain individuals spread the report in vindictive manner, ior the purpose Of doing someone an injury! . However, these reports have been followed and those who at first believed them are now beginning to realize that there is nothing to them and that although there are some cases of smallpox around the city, there are so well under control that it will only ,be a matter of a very short time before the disease will be driven fronour mhlst. It is mot unusual for jguch diseases to break out in any city; but long as they are as well under control as the smallpox eases are in Provo, there is absolutely no occasion for undue alarm. We hope the people in our neighboring towns will not let these false reports interfere with their coming to Prqvo to transact business in the usual way, for there is absolutely no danger to anyone. all ; - 1 .
