I have worked hard as the Sheriff of Kane County to provide you with quality law enforcement and public safety services. During the primary elections, I ran my campaign based upon my track record, my training and my experience. My opposition':-s- t rategy was to turn our positive accomplishments around to make them look negative, and to capitalize on negative side issues by claiming unfair treatment in the wake of some disciplinary problems. The primary campaign was extremely difficult for me in that had to run my department during the busiest time of the year, and to campaign at the same time. Consequently, I was not able to get out and personally let each of you know how important thisjob is to me, and what I hope to accomplish in the next four years I also felt that everyone would see through the falsehoods of the issue of B. J. Wagoners Lake Powell AdunI cate which have been told probably cost me the election. With bold headlines saying that I would cost the County taxpayers millions of dollars, Mr. Wagoners paper came out just the election, leaving me no time to defend myself or respond to its vicious allegations. In a subsequent issue of the Southern Utah Xews , the jurors who sat on the criminal case came to my aid, and pointed out that there were many inaccurate statements in that issue. We have also been informed that the attorneys in the civil suit against the County have asked to withdraw from the case. I want to assure you that this lawsuit was both malicious, frivolous and above all untrue. It was designed to do nothing more than to remove me from office. After I lost the election, Mr. Wagener sent me a pure black postcard in the mail and sarcastically asked me if it resembled my political future. Because of the last minute smear campaign heaped on me just prior to the primary election, and because of such overwhelming support from both the public and my loyal staff, I felt the need to set the record straight and file as a write-i- n candidate for Sheriff. I hope that this campaign will not be marred by the petty, mean-spirites and gossip that flowed so freely during the previous one. At this time, I pledge to focus on the public safety issues which will affect the future of Kane County and publicly challenge my opposition to do the same. The two main issues, as 1 see them, are this: 1 Our experience, and how this experience and leadeihip will help us administer our department, overseeing law enforcement, jail duties, court cases, warrant preparation, and dispatch services to name a few. 2) What we will do as Sheriff to provide quality public safety services to our evergrowing county as we move ever closer to the 21st century. I plan to get out, work hard, and contact each of you through the mail, over the phone and e to let you know hopefully how important thisjob is to me. In doing so, I would be happy to listen to v our questions and concerns, and hopefully, come November S, that po.--t card sent to me by Mr. Wagener will be a whole lot brighter.
