Dr. Royden C. Braithwaite, Director of the College of Southern Utah, will deliver the Baccalaureate sermon. Dr. Braithwaite was born in Manti, Utah and received his degree at the BYU. Equipment necessary to start the program is being ordered immediately. The program will get into full swing about June 15th and will continue for two months. All participants in the summer program will be expected to join on a group insurance policy. The fee will be $1.00 per person. Emerson Tells Founding of LSA Tryouts Set For By Raymond Lawless Baseball Saturday i The history of the Lone Scouts of America founded in 1915 by W. D. New Jersey who founded the Elbeetian Legion for former members of the LSA and who has published the ELBEE-TEas the official organ month-Ujta- h. ly since 1928. Men from every walk of life and every creed have flocked to the banner to keep alive their memories of an inspiring boyhood in which they corresponded with other boys and through Lone Scout training developed into the men they are E, today. Noted Author Lucien Waldo Emerson who lives in Middletown, New York joined the Lone Scouts of America in 1918 and has been interested in the program ever since. His marvelou narrative of the Old West, The PROSPECTORS, written while the author was still in his teens was among the best e serials ever published in the LONE SCOUT magazine. Mr. Emerson under the pen name of Peter Field has had over thirty books published including those in the Sombrero Western series His latest novel, Man From Robbers Roost was published in England. A number of his books have their locale in Utah and nearby sections of the West including such popular titles as Breakneck Pass, "The Outlaw from Castle Canyon, "Powder River Renegade, Rawhide Rider, "Saddles from Santa Fee and Wild Horse Lightening. Mr. Emerson who has been an enthusiastic member of the Legion since the early days Nof the organization was chosen to write the series for the SOUTHERN UTAH NEWS n because of his almost authentic to write ability factual manuscript in a scintillating style which should make for delightful reading by both the members of the Elbeetian Legion and the residents of Southern old-tim- super-huma- Relief Society Sets Convention Tryouts and registration for the Little League and Pony League baseball teams will be held Saturday, May 16th according to announcement from the recreation committee of Kanab. Little League, which includes boys 9years of age by June 1st. and who will not turn 13 before August 31st, will be held from 8 to 10 a.m. Saturday. Pony League, which takes in boys 13 to 15 years of age who will not turn 16 before August 31, will be held from 10 until noon Saturday. All boys will need mitts and shoes. Gym shoes are acceptable for the smaller group of boys. A convention of the Relief Society organization of the Kanab stake will be held in Kanab Wednesday May 20. All officers including class leaders and visit-- j ing teachers in the Stake are ex-- . pected to attend this convention. Special invitations are extended to the Stake Presidency, High Councilmen and bishoprics of the stake and it is hoped they will all be able to be there. Sisters Alton W. Hunt and Elsa T. A second project now being considered is a double tennis court which could be used in addition to tennis for other games and dancing. It is hoped that everyone will support this project and help make it a reality. Swapp Buried In Kanab Friday, May Eighth Funeral services were held in Kanab, Friday, May 8, 1959 for Mrs. Leona Spencer Swapp age 62, who passed away-.a- t the Kane County Hospital of pneumonia Tuesday at 10:45 p m. A life-lon- g resident of Kane County, she was born November 13, 1897 in Orderville to Howard Orsen and Azenfth E. Spencer. She was married to James Eugene Swapp' July 11, 1917 in the Manti Temple, Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-daSaints. Loved and respected by all who knew her, she was known by all as a fine homemaker and mother Her gentle nature and kindness was shown daily In her home and church work. y Surviving her are: husband; sons, Archer S., Norman S., of Kanab; Glen S., Grand Canyon, Arizona; Ray S., Tropic; daughters, Mrs. Clifford (Theda) Flynn, Grand Canyon, Arizona; Mrs. Leon (Emma Jean) Muiliner, Kanab, 12 grandchildren; a brother and four sisters.
