Soil Censcnratisn The 316th Quarterly Conferof the Kanab Stake was at Kanab, August 31 and September 1, 1957. Elder El Ray L. Christiansen, Assistant to the Council of the Twelve, and Elder Preston Nibley of the Church Historians office represented the General Authorities at this conference. Subjects stressed included: salvation; mission work; responsibility of church mem-ers- ; reactivation of inactive members; ward teaching; temple marriage; and obedience. There were five missionaries returned from foreign missions who reported; Arlo Judd, Stanley Earl Brown, Orvil Kent Palmer, Rue Dell Mackelprang and Lynn F. Findlay Jr. Many Participate Music for the Sunday general sessions was presented by the Kanab North and South Wards combined choir. The choir wras directed by LeRoy P. Judd with Leona Frost at the organ. Prayers w'ere offered by Fred E. Heaton, Melvin F. Rider, H. Lamar Chamberlain, Wayne Rose and George L. Brinkerhoff of the 85th Quorum of Seventy; Z. Ray Judd of the High Council; H. Bernell Lewis of the Kanab North Waid Bishopric and Valton E. Jackson, Kanab Junior Seminary Superintendent. Burton O. Rust was released as a member of the High Council. Doyle S. Randall was released as assistant in the Stake Aaron Y.M.M.I.A. Presidency. Reese, Ervin Hoyt, Rolland Lamb and Orson Young were released as members of the Second Quor um of Elders Presidency. Burke B. Sorenson was sustained as a member of the High Council Harmon C. Steed was sustained as assistant in the Stake Y.M.MI.A. Presidency. The M.I.A evening session was presented by the various wards of the stake in a program entitled "And This Is Life Eternal. Wednesday, Chris and Lamond Heaton started harvesting the intermediate wheatgrass seed on Rex Bauers place in Bishops Canyon. They werent ready to start while I was there, but the seeds examined looked like the seed crop should be a good one. Orderville Hews Loran Bishop, son of Mr. and Mrs. Angus Bishop, who has been working in northern Utah during the summer returned home to start school. Also another son and wife and children, and Mr. and Mrs. Merrill Mecham visited with them over the week end. The Orderville Ward Primary presented a program Wednesday night "A Trip Through The Parks, in song, dance and poems. The tall poised queen, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Dilworth C. Pugh of Orem, won her spurs to the county Judging by reigning this year as Miss Orem. A board of five judges spent more than two hours sifiting the talents, poise and physical attributes of eight contestants before selecting the new Utah County queen and her attendants. Orval Hafen (R-S- t Geor- ge), Utahs first representative on a special committee on the Council of State Governments, left Salt Lake City by plane Wednesday to attend a Washington, D.C., meeting. Sen. Hafen will attend a three-daconference of the Council of State Government's special committee on suggested state legislation. Recommendatons for new state legislation as drafted by the committee, of which Sen. The Three Dolls Jackl Cronk, Bonnie Haycock and Patti Fuller Max Bruce, chairman of the American Legion Ham and Shoot, announced today that final preparations have been made for one of the best shoots to be held In Kanab. The shoot will be held at the American Legion Pavilion on Sept. 7th and 8th. It will start at 1:30 p.m. and there will be events for all sizes of rifles and for shotguns. Man Beautiful home ceremonies in marriage Miss Donna May Baardseth, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Morris Shields of Kanab, and Mr. Robert Joe Fosbin-der- , son of Mr. and Mrs. Ivan Fosbinder of San Diego, Calif., here Sunday, September 1, 1957. The ceremony was conducted in the Jack Church home with Burton McAllister reading the riles. Maid of Honor was Miss Man a Dawn Cram with Best Man duties being performed by Robert L. Ilymer of Tucson. The new- Mrs. Fosbinder is ,a graduate of Kanab high Bchool where she was active in school activities. She is a graduate of the Holy Cross Nursing School and has been employed the past several months in Pacific Beach, Calif., in her nursing work. Mr. Fosbinder is a graduate of Tucson high school, and has served four years in the U.S. Navy, he Is presently employed by Convair in Pacific Beach. The couple plan on making their home there. Following the wedding ceremony the couple were feted at a reception at the home of the brides parents, They left immediately following the ceremony for Grand Canyon where they spent their honeymoon. - Television for the Kanab and Fredonia area might be closer than you think! Wednesday night a group of Kanab and Fredonia fight enthusiasts watched the Fullmer-Veja- r fight from Moccasin Mtn. and Thursday, Theo McAllister and an expert from Cedar City, Wm. Hills, installed the first relay at Moccasin Mountain that will bring the picture to the south of us. The next step will a be to Install a relay at the line with $ splitter that will throw the picture both to the south to Fredonia and north to Kanab. This equipment is on a rental basis at present and people are being asked to see the picture that wdll be brought here on the rental equipment and then make up their minds as to whether they want to go on with it on a permanent basis. Those who saw the fights at the Moccasin Mountain are enthusiatic about the possibilities. Utah-Arizon- Much of the credit for the progress made so far must go to Theo McAllister and several of his associates who have spearheaded the project. Two meetings of delagates from different clubs in Kanab have met in the Kanab Lions Club House and $t50.00 to get the project going has been pledged by clubs and some private donors who are anxious to get the show on tne road. Kirby, Publicity Chairman Two More Teachers Mrs. DeLenna Hamblin and LeRoy P. Judd joined the Kanab high school teaching faculty for schol opening this week to make a full slate of teachers for the - school. Mrs. Hamblin will teach Girls physical education and Mr. Judd will teach music. Both of the teachers are residents of Kanab, and have taught previously here. However, they were dissatisfied with the room and asked that the luggage be moved The moved to another room. assistant manager obliged and moved the belongings into 230 A. Deciding to get a bite to cat, the girls walked down to South Fifth St. to Foxys. In 20 minutes they returned to the apt. to "find that someone had broken Into the room and stolen all of their personal belongings. Clothes, costumes, cosmetics and 35 musical numbers were gone. Of greatest value were the arrangements. The girls had paid $100 apiece for them. The trio was supposed to open at the Sands Lounge last night at 11 p.m. However, these plans were cancelled.
