Show Microfilm 141 Corp. Pierpont Ave. KANAB, UTAH, TIIURS DAY, MARCH 7, 1957 VOLUME XXV NO. 20 Kanab Legion Plans Utah Foundation Research Report Shows Interesting Figures On Sidle Aid In Relation To Property Taxes Residents of Kanab would have to pay an additional property tax of 192.43 mills ($192.43 per $1,000 assessed valuation), if the amount of state aid provided to local units of government during, 1956 had to be raised by a local property tax. This was revealed in a research study of state aid in Utah just completed by Utah Foundation, the private, nonprofit tax research ; . organization. According to the Foundation report, state aid to the Kane School District in fiscal 1956 was equivalent to a 169.30 mill property tax levy. The state aid going to Kane County would to, a 18.01 mill levy, while the state funds distributed to Kanab City would be equal to a 5.12 mill property levy. Total state aid disributed to all units of government in Kane County last year amounted to $448,591. or $172.53 for every man, woman, and child residing in the county. Foundation analysts point out that financial aid totaling was provided by the state of Utah to 40 school districts, 29 counties, and 207 cities and towns during the 1956 fiscal year. This sum was equal to slightly more than one third of all tax revenue collected by the State during the year. State aid in 1956 amounted to 26.8 per cent of all Utah state expenditures. The report states that Utah provided state aid to local governments under sixteen different programs during the 1956 fiscal year. In addition, funds were distributed by the State seven Federal programs. More than three fourths of all state aid distributed to local units of government is allocated from the Uniform School Fund, according to the Foundations analysis. During 1956, 38 of Utahs 40 school districts received state aid for school operations from the Uniform School Fund, while two districts (Jordan and Iron) made contributions to the state fund. The research study observed that many of the present programs of state aid in Utah originated or were expanded as a result of the recommendations of (Continued on page three) 0 defi-natel- County.
