The third quarter was even uglier as the Darts saw the Huskies march down the field on their first possession to increase the lead to 31-The Hillcrest fan contingent were all disguised as bleachers. The Davis fans on the other hand were trying everything they could to help their embattled warriors. One Davis fan in the stands started to lead the others as he spelled out completely to the surprise of the cheerleaders. But it was too little, too late and the game ended with Hillcrest smiling and Davis went home with some consolation that they made some good runs in the waning Wildcats in rushing with 80 yards on eight carries while Jason McNeal had 38 yards on nine ru hes. However, the Lancers could not gain one yard on two attempts to get a first down and turned the ball over at the Fremont 30. The Wolves scored on their next possession to take a 3 lead with 5:03 left in the game. After an interception, Fremont scored again with 10 seconds PLAIN CITY The Layton offense proved that it can move the ball and score points this year, but whether it can stop opposing teams offenses is still a question. After staying in the game through three quarters against Fremont, the Lancers gave up 15 fourth-quartpoints to lose 3 to the Silver Wolves. The Lancers had a difficult time defending the passing of junior quarterback Adam Beus who connected on 9 of 10 passes for 171 yards and three touchdowns. The Lancer offense had a couple of opportunities to take the lead late in the third quarter and early in the fourth quarter, but could not convert on fourth down plays. After falling behind 18-- 6 at intermission, Layton owned the third quarter. The Lancers drove 85 yards on 11 plays to start the second half. From his own 15, running back Jon Adams bolted off tackle and scooted 38 yards to the Fremont 47 Layton junior quarterback Derrick Thomas then hit Riley Lowry on a pair of passes to put the ball at the 13. Lowry showed his running ability on the two catches..The Lancers cut the lead to 5 with 8:09 left in the third quarter when Adams scooted in from six Thomas connected on 19 of 38 passes for 207 yards. Lowry and Adams made 16 of those catches. Adams alsorushed for 75 yards. I thought we did a good job in some areas. Were making progress, said Coach Carter Cook. These backs were so fast that they scooted around the Darts defense before they could even try to get a good angle on the tackle. The only light of hope m the first period was on the Huskies second possession, Bryce Stevenson intercepted a Dean Fountaine pass and at the end of the first quarter, Adam Alba catching the runner behind the line for a loss.
