SOCCER 'Birds drop home series to Valpo, ISU BY MARK JONES The Southerp Utah University women's soccer team fell to 1-10 on the eason with tough losse thi past Thursday and Friday at Thunderbird Soccer Field. On Thursday the ' Bird hosted Mid-Con foe Valparasio, but lo t 2-0. Kelly Faulkner provided the only coring of the game as h cored in the 33rd minute and the 66th minute to give Valpo the victory. Valpo improved to 6-5 on the eason. · However, despite the loss UU out hot the Crusaders 14-11, but Valpo had th advantage in comer kicks with a 12-1 edg . On Friday the 'Bird played host to Idaho tate and played a hard fought game, but fell 2-1 to the Bengals. The oring began as UU's Megan And rson scored on a pass from Jessica Walton to give the 'Birds a 1-0 lead in the 13th minute. However, the Bengals came back as Lisa Gramer added a goal in the 34th minute to ti th gam at 1-1. The game remained tied at 1-1 until the early moments of the second half when Brooke Alton added a penality kick for Idaho tate to give them th 2-1 lead an~ eventual victory. Joe Young had two sacks, constantly getting into the backfield with Mounga and Paul Esera to disrupt plays. Young had a third sack that was disallowed because of an UU penalty down field. Cornerback Jeremy Avila had an interception that he returned 44 yards for the 'Birds, and safety Jerry Cowan led the team in cackles again, with 6.5 . "Defensively we played very well again " Gregory said. "Thi was th best team we've played and we played them really close.
