Senate Bill #011-00 passed 14-0-1. -· Donations encouraged • The yearly Sub-4-Santa event, a philanthropy that allows people to adopt needy families and children for the holiday season and purchase gifts or holiday food items tor them, was kicked off Monday. This year, like in years past, is already an immediate success for Sub-4-Santa. Within the first two hours of displaying the Sub-4Santa Angel Tree, the tree that bears the names of all families and children to be adopted, all 20 families and 50 children's names were taken off the tree and adopted by students and faculty. Currently on the Angel Tree are $10 or $20 certificates that can be taken off the tree as reminders to purchase actual food certificates during participant's next shopping trip. The food certificates can be purchased at all grocery store cash registers and will allow each family to buy the food items they need for holiday meals. For those who choose to donate food, the committee recommends the following food items: stuffing mix, canned yams, gravy mix, cranberry sauce, canned vegetables, hot cider, instant potatoes and hot chocolate. The committee will have a table in the Sharwan Smith Center on Nov. 27 and 28 where donations will be collected. Donations will also be taken at the SUUSA offices anytime before Nov. 30. -Mark Woodbury ,. |
