More than 1 1 million young people between tie ages of 18 and 21 are now eligible to vote for the President for tlie first time. All they have to do is to register. When national election time rolls around in 1972, 25 million young people under the age of 25 will be eligible to cast their first vote for the President of their choice. Rarely in the history of this nation have potential first-tim- e voters made up so large a share of the total ; voting age population nearly 1 in 5. Hopefully, this will result in a major rejuvenation of the major parties with the injection of youfig j and energetic workers. It is up to our present political leadership to welcome and encourage these young Americans. They should listen and incorporate their worth-bile ideas, utilize their manpower, and encourage their dedication and participation toward a better i tomorrow. We have opened The System to them. The writer says, I was born and raised in Salt Lake City, and I enjoy very much living in Utah. I am quite certain that this Boston slogan is not exactly enhancing Utahs image. I simply feel that you as governor of our great state should be informed of Bostons idea of a joke. I really dont know what Governor Rampton can do about the Boston campaign. Actually, Governor Rampton is in no way responsible for Utahs bad image. Hes one of the most highly respected governors in the nation -- - and does more than his part to enhance our image. Wherever he goes, he makes important friends for our state. Ive passed along to Lee Jorgensen, director of the Utah Travel Council, what I know about the Boston posters -- - and given him the names of several important Utahns who can fill him in with the intimate details. If I were Governor Rampton, Id write a letter to the campaign, originators of the Boston anti-littwhich would go something like this. Thank you gentlemen, for publicizing Utah. Whats the old cliche? Say or write anything about me. Just spell my name right. While we sympathize with your littler problem, well welcome all the violators you want to send to Utah. Once arrive in Utah and experience these litter-buthe incredible variety of scenic attractions provided' by nature, theyll no longer want to litter. Dont send them to Utah, however, expecting us to rehabilitate them and send them back to Boston. Once theyve experienced our red rock canyons, incomparable water skiing, fishing, hunting, lakes and streams, they wont come back to Boston. Theyll be sold on Utah once they look eastward and see the mighty Wasatch Mountains towering 7,000 feet above the valley floor, theyll say goodbye forever to we know well keep em Boston. If they ski forever. Within minutes of any city along the Wasatch are beautiful ski resorts Brighton, Park City, Snow Basin, Sundance and Alta, of which Holiday magazine said, All Alta has going for it is just perhaps the finest skiing in the world. Theyll probably be surprised to learn that Utah is a state of culture and refinement maybe not to the degree that Boston once was but, the important thing, our future is still ahead of us. In Utah, were not satisfied with the glories of the past. We dont have Arthur Fiedler -- - but we do have Maurice Abravanel and the Utah Symphony. We dont but we do have the University of have MIT Utah and other fine institutions, including BYU, which is the largest private school in the nation. We even have night life with some fine private clubs that would probably compare faby vorably with anything in Boston. Send them bus, car or plane. Well welcome them -- - and theyll be happy they were sent to Utah.
