President Emma Smith greeted the members and their guests including County Commissioner Arthur Brown, Mayor Charles Rapp, and Roy School Board Member Bryce R Jensen, and introduced the speaker. Guest speaker was Dr. R. H. Walker, dean of the College of Agriculture at the USAC. Dr. Walker discussed conditions in Iran, India and other Far Eastern countries and the United States' jmliey toward these countries through President Truman's Point Four program effected in 1951 Nrtd Help To illustrate the need for assistance in these countries. Dr. Walker jwinted out that in Iran (here are 43,000 villages and that of these villages 40 per cent have not one person who can read or write Only one third of the children born live. A great majority of school teachers In these countries have been no farther than the sixth grade with no special training at all.
