This service is primarily designed to serve the needs in the model neighborhood. However, because there is no strict pattern that can established be concerning physical location, the target area is defined in terms of the Mexican-America- products of using skills and abilities the aged have acquired over their lifetimes. The senior citizens will be able to use their talents for the betterment and enhancement of their ways of life, indeed the entire community will benefit. After the first year, this project will be absorbed by the County as part of its Council on Aging program. and n Indian communities at large. This body of residents is formed of just that - local citizens . knowing they have a responsibility to themselves, their families and the community. Insuring the latter provides the best home possible. They meet regularly analysing just what it takes to accomplish their goals; security, harmonious ethnic relationships, the caring for those can't guarantee for who themselves even the simplest way of life. Counseling Aides The relatively high percentage of the arrests and bookings in Salt Lake County involve Mexican-American- s and Indians. This program expands a first action year program providing in the second action year two counselors, one serving al conduct the direct service programs provided by the project. The day room network will provide in addition to the direct services, a point of entry to other senior citizen programs and activities in the community. Facilities necessary for this program can be provided by utilizing private homes with sufficient space and accessible "counseling" and interpreting utilities under individual contract with the homeowners if appropriate institutional facilities are not available. The project is studying the feasibility of using s for transportation of the aged and the economics involved in their purchase.
