Show Page 2 BROWSING WITH BEN Yld Cat i. April 13, 1951 Editorial In a recent survey taken among students at B. Y. High by the journalism class, a debatable question was put before them for their opinion. This question was: Should the school paper (WILDCAT) have a letters to the editor column? The answer was overwhelmingly YES! reaction of the entire student Anxiously wondering what-t- he we would have be, body gone ahead with the plan for this issue. The only way we will be able to know how you all feel about this column is through your letters. So let us know. Just drop your letter, containing your opinions, in our suggestion box located in the library. We all will appreciate your letters. Dear Editor; There may be some controversy over this issue, but it is very close to us and important I feel. This school was organized by the church for the benefit of teaching church principles. Tolerance is a very good thing but when it involves lowering our own standards, it should be moderated. There has been throughout recent years, the developing of a low class element involving swearing, dirty stories, and general ignoring of church ideals. You may say it is nobodys business but my own what I say or do but as a church school, our standards should be upheld by all of the students. If individuals dont agree, what is their purpose for choosing this school? Something should be done through the faculty and student body. I would appreciate a reply or opinion on this issue. Thank you. Ellen Keeler ANSWER: Ellen, you have in a very fine manner discussed a vital problem that should be put before every student here at B. Y. High. Your letter has caused much discussion among ourselves, a few teachers, and Principal Sorenson; and we have all agreed that there is much to do in this field.. In our opinion, the solution of this issue lies with each of us. The faculty and student council have done much in clearing this matter up, but in the end it is the problem of each and every student. So all I can tell you is that through the harmonious work of the student body, the faculty, and student council, this controversy shall eventually be solved. Editor Dear Editor; I think its about time something is being done about the coat rack shortage at B. Y. High. You put your coat in a certain place in the morning and when you go to get it you either find it on the floor or have to dig through a lafer of coats to find your own. Cant something be done to correct this? Norma Henrie ANSWER: Im sure that no one will disagree with you about this subject, Norma. If any improvements are needed here at the Y, more coat hangers, should indeed, be near the top of the list. But as the situation looks now, we shall have to wait until next year when more room in the Education building will be available to our high school. So it looks like well just have to make the best of it for a little while longer. Editor Dear Editor; I find the paper very interesting, as I know all of us do. The only gripe is that it isnt big enough and we dont get it often enough. Can you tell me why this is? Darla Hunt ANSWER: From what we (the paper staff) have heard, I guess that your gripe is about the same as the rest of the students here at the "Y," We have been intending to explain to all of you why the situation is as it is, and now, Darla, you have given us the opportunity. Since last year our budget to run the paper has been greatly cut as has every other school department. But with the money available, we have put out as many papers and made them as big as possible. We have really tried to do a good job. Next year, probably the regular budget will be available to the paper staff and more school papers will again be the rule here at the Y.
