Show Page 4 YTd Cat LINKS LINEUP By Sterling Loveland As you all know, Stan Collins is ineligible to play baseball and tennis this year, but how many students know why? The ruling . . direct from the rule book is: in any any student engaging athletic activity is ineligible for the remainder of the current school year in all activities sponsored by this association (Utah High School Athletics Association). A student is considered engaging in . . he joins a activities when group and continues in the same activity. This says that anyone particigroup who pating in a has played for his school during the same season is ineligible for any other sport the rest of the year. Its too bad that Stan cant play baseball or tennis for he was a regular on the baseball team and probably would have been the standout on the tennis team. It may be a little late but wed all like to congratulate B.Y.U. in their winning the N.I.T., and for their fine showing in the N.C.A.A. Also Mel Hutchins and Roland Minson. Minson for cornering the Most Valuable Player award in the National Invitational and Hutchins for getting the same r coveted award in the game. Members of the baseball and tennis teams should be happy now. The tennis team gets brand hew shoes, shorts, and sweaters, while the baseball team has fifteen new baseball uniforms to go with the five new ones they got last year. Also they have new sweat pants and sweat shirts, along with fifteen new warm-ujackets. With the new bats and balls, its a total cost of $900.00 just for baseball alone. And next year the football team will have new pants. We should consider ourselves very lucky to have such new equipment and the boys on the teams should show their thanks by taking good care of it and also by winning a few championships. April Wildcats Down Wasps In Opener Lindquist & Morgan heck Wasps k out-of-seaso- n High started off the current baseball season in good style as they survived a bad first inning to take a 9 to 3 game from, Wasatch high on March 29, at' Provo. Ken Lindquist and Alan Morgan shut the door on Wasatch after the Wasps took a 3 point lead in the first inning. But the Wildcats took a 5 to 3 lead in the second frame and were never headed as they kept on piling up the runs. Big Kay Clark powered a home-ruand Ed Pinegar added more power to star along with Lindquist and Morgan, Wildcat pitchers. , non-scho- non-scho- - p Popular Spring Sports Spring is the time of the year activithat encourages ties. Mentioning only a few, there are tennis, track, baseball, hiking, out-doo- r swimming, pool, romancing, and the favorite, sluffing. B. Y. high has an outstanding player for each of these sports. For tennis of course, it would be Ed Pinegar. Track, Blaine Lund. Baseball, Kay Clark. Hiking, J. Paul Smith. Swimming, Irene Hafen. Pool, Ahmad Shayesteh. Romancing, Jim Judd. BULLETIN: B. Y. High net ters dropped a decision to Springville, Wed., April 11. Athlete of the Month 4-- 1 Tennis Team Shapes Up With new tennis shoes, shorts, shirts, and sweaters, B. Y. Highs tennis team will not only play good tennis but will play in style. Carrying on the tradition of good tennis will probably be two juniors this year, Ed Pinegar and Kent Dunford. These boys will carry the bulk of the hopes foe a singles champ from B. Y. High. With Stan Collins ineligible for high school competition, Lynn Staheli will add additional power to the singles division. While these three are pretty much a cinch for the singles berth, the two doubles team division is still wide open. Victor Oldroyd, Clair McKell. Dave Kimball, Alan Canfield, Larry Knight, Darrel Bushnell, Bud Losee, Bruce Taylor, and David Wilkinson are all in the running for the four remaining berths. Most of these boys have looked good in the intramural tournament. This years team is expected to do well in tennis again, as B. Y. high usually does. In fact, in three years Wildcat netters have taken the Class B singles and doubles. So the boys who make the tennis team should remember the great tradition established by those before them. tion of Don Snow. The track, team was small to start out with but with the aid of the Junior High the team is growing larger. The thinclads are working hard for the invitational track .meet that comes on April at the B.Y.U. stadium. The team will also compete in a regional meet. There are only two returning track men from last year, Dick Earl and Blaine Lund. The senior high boys who are out this year are, Lynn Swenson, who will run the 220, Blaine Lund, the 440 and Dick Earl the 880. The junior high boys who have been out are, Grant Miller, Jimmy Earl, Bob Snell, Robert Hatch, Dick Walker, Richard Davis, Paul Hoopes, Mike Hargraves, Brent Brockbank, and 27-2- John Hart. -- J I, i 4 J V As you may have guessed the subject of this story is Warren f Kay Clark, six feet, two and inches, 170 pound, athlete of one-hal- Kay Clark Warren Kay Clark was born in Provo, Utah, July 10. 1933. At the age of six, Warren entered the first grade at Timpanogos Grade school, and at the age of twelve he went into the seventh grade at Dixon Junior High school. When he was fifteen he went to Provo High and then transferred to B. Y. High. In May, Mr. Clark, with the grace of some kind teacher, will graduate from this school. the month. Kay earned the award for his fine play on the Wildcats baseball and football team. Clark was a tackle and earned a letter this year in football. In baseballs he excels in the outfield and hits home runs when at bat. In addition to his outstanding athletic ability, Kay also a hot trumpet in the schoolplays band. V 4 He likes blondes, is fond of raw carrots, and is a fine bass in the concert chorus. All these qualities add up to & 4 make Kay Clark, a unanimous choice as our athlete of the month of April.
